Greetings, Revverites!
Welcome to our first community newsletter. In an effort to keep you better informed about all things Revver, we'll be sending these out regularly (but not too regularly, don't worry).
In the Revver newsletter you can expect to find:
- Exciting news and developments
- Upcoming features
- Community highlights
- The hottest videos
- Creators and sharers
- Tips and tools for promoting and sharing your videos and earning more money
What's New At Revver?
Back by popular demand... (drum roll please)... The thumbnail chooser! That's right, now you can now choose your very own thumbnails for your videos. And even better, the thumbnail you choose now matches up with the poster image (the still frame that sits behind the big play button in the flash player). So when you choose your thumbnail, you're also choosing what the flash player looks like before you hit play.
No more blurry images or silly faces frozen mid-word. Unless, of course, that's what you're looking for. You tell us, you're the creative genius! Huzzah!
Revver Goes To SXSW
The South by Southwest Festival is just around the corner and, once again, the leading players in independent film, music and technology will descend upon Austin for a jam-packed event full of performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, networking and parties. Oh, the parties. Revver will be there in full swing -- speaking, wheeling, dealing and partying with the best of the web 2.0 crowd. If you're planning on attending SXSW, be sure to look out for us.
And guess what! Revver has been selected as a finalist for the SXSW Web Awards in the Film/TV category! The 10th annual SXSW web awards show will be emceed by none other than Revver super star Ze Frank. We can't wait!
Revver Film School: Green
Greeeen! The professor is envious of your video making skills, and is seeing greeeeen! So that's the new theme for the Revver Film School project. Green can symbolize a lot of things - the environment, money, jealousy, newness, Saint Patty's Day, etc - we're sure you all can think of a few more. So get busy, and submit your video for class by tagging it "rfs green" (in quotes, spaces included).
The deadline for this project is Monday, March 12. Please note that only videos submitted on or after Feb. 9 will be eligible for being featured among the 5 most-watched videos in the Head of the Class featured collection
What About MySpace?
You've probably heard by now that MySpace is no longer allowing Revver embeds. We know a lot of you rely on MySpace as a place to share and promote your videos and we are working with them to try to sort this out. It might take a while before we have any definitive news for you. In the meantime, we encourage you to send a message to Tom and tell him that you value MySpace as an open platform and that you hope they'll reinstate Revver embeds. Remind him that Revver is one of the very few video sharing sites that looks out for creator rights and that that's important to you. You can get in touch with Tom here: http://myspace.com/tomanderson.
Learn more about sharing Revver videos on the Revver blog and in the forums!
